Charcoal on Gesso
(Jan. 2027)

Jan. 14, 21 & 28. Thursday Mornings with Lisa Larrabee.

Charcoal is such a versatile medium. You can use charcoal to draw tightly rendered details or bold, expressive marks. Drawing over gesso can allow an interesting textured surface to show through.  The gesso also creates a durable surface that holds up well both wet and dry.

Did you know that you can paint with charcoal? Charcoal can create beautiful washes, drips and splatters, and you can build multiple layers. Once dry, you can draw, smudge, erase and refine using traditional methods. It is a fun way to combine expressive painting techniques with familiar drawing techniques.
