Painting the Light II
(Dec. 2026)

Dec. 7, 14 & 21, Monday Nights at the Campbell Studio.

Change up your painting with an unexpected combination.  Pair abstract colors and textures with  traditional painting techniques.  Create a beautiful, luminous illusion of light and shadow by painting light values and dark values separately over an abstract mid-tone background. The process is similar to using charcoal and white without mixing them together on toned paper.

Once the light and shadows are painted, learn to create richer tones using glazing and veiling techniques to add depth. This process is a great way to hone your skills to separate values into dark and light categories while also refining techniques for applying paint through scumbling, lifting, glazing and veiling. Choose your own reference (still-life, portrait or landscape) with guidance from the instructor.

Painting the Light is not a prerequisite for this class.  You can choose to practice this process over a consistent mid-tone, rather than an abstract background.
