Explore new ways to use pastel pencils. Create beautiful sketches, drawings, or even finished works of art rich in pigment with lots of colors. Pastel pencils may be used in conjunction with soft pastels or can serve as a cleaner alternative to pastel sticks with no mess & little setup time.

Technique: A variety of approaches to pastel pencils or the pastel medium
Materials: The instructor will email the materials list prior to the first day of class.

- Surfaces - What to use? "Texture" or "smoothness" of the paper affects the look of this medium, also toned paper versus white paper.
- Sharpening - how to cut away the wood and customize the tip for the best tonal effects
- Drawing - Basic drawing concepts on line, shape & value
- Blending - is especially important for creating flat tones, transitions, and mixing colors.
- Style - loose or painterly versus hyper-realistic or photographic.
- Manufacturers - not all brands are created equal. Compare and learn what makes them unique.
